Advances in modern technology have transformed today’s electronic Adjustable Speed Drives (ASDs) into sophisticated devices designed to perform robustly, with a long trouble-free service life.

The use of  Insulated Gate Bi-polar Transistors, (IGBTs), as switching devices, has greatly reduced physical size and also increased the responsiveness of the drive product.

The switching of an IGBT, can occur with blazing speed, in as little as 50 nano-seconds.  (A nano-second is one thousandth of  a millionth of one second.)

Such high speed switching can cause stray electrical currents to flow between the ASD’s electrical conductors and your building ground circuit.  These currents can cause serious reliability problems in two distinct ways:

· Premature motor bearing failure due to “fluting” is caused by High Frequency “ground currents” that actually flow through the motor shaft and bearings.

· A higher than normal Failure Rate of Printed Circuit Boards can be a symptom of High Frequency “ground currents” that disturb the zero volt ground plane that is required inside the cabinet of any AC or DC drive.

Our Consulting Services can be used to eliminate such problems before the drive system is started-up, or to explain and correct situations that have developed after start-up.
